The Adventures of Cormac Payne!

Adventure 1, Session 2

Amsterdam, 1932 (Day 2)

JUSTIN
CLANG CLANG The trolley is bearing down on you both. What do you want to do?

CHRISTIAN
First, since this is the first turn I’ve got his arm grappled, I can make a free contested ST roll to get him to drop the gun.
And I think I get +5 for using two hands to his one.

JUSTIN
OK. I do remember you had him successfully grappled with both arms.

CHRISTIAN
I’d grappled his arm specifically, so it’s a front grapple.
I guess I could still pin him, but it would be like an arm lock that would turn it into a rear grapple.
Also, don’t forget his off-hand penalties for things like quickdraw and knife this time.
Anyway, so contested ST to start?

JUSTIN
Yes, that was my bad.
Contested ST works
how many dice or do we just compare ST?

CHRISTIAN
Just relative ST.

JUSTIN
He has ST 11

CHRISTIAN
No, it’s a roll, but we compare margin of success if we both pass I think. I got 12 for my 11 ST, but with my +5 I’m under.

JUSTIN
So it’s 3D6?

CHRISTIAN
Yep, straight att roll to go under.

JUSTIN
He rolled a 9

CHRISTIAN
My margin of success was 4.

JUSTIN
So you succeed then?

CHRISTIAN
By a greater margin than him it looks like.

JUSTIN
His was by 2

CHRISTIAN
Woot
Finally, progress.

JUSTIN
Despite the searing pain in your side you manage to knock the gun out of his hand. It goes skidding across the cobblestones RIGHT PAST THE TROLLEY THAT’S ABOUT TO HIT YOU!

CHRISTIAN
I’m aware, the contested ST was a free action since I’ve got his arm grappled.
I guess this should probably be a move+attack turn.

JUSTIN
oh, ok. i was trying to drop a subtle hint there.
that works

CHRISTIAN
The attack’s going to be a knee to the groin.
special rules, stand by…
Oh, wait a sec…
forgot that I need a will roll to do anything other than all out attack.

JUSTIN
Is it move, then attack?
so basically you don’t care about the trolley. It’s just fuck this guy up?

CHRISTIAN
Hey, I’m On the Edge, what can I say.
Let me make sure I can even move+attack first.

JUSTIN
So you’re a character out of a Guy Ritchie film?
ok

CHRISTIAN
10

JUSTIN
Your Will is 12, so that works

CHRISTIAN
So apparently getting crushed by a trolley is enough to take me off the edge for a moment or two.

JUSTIN
Those things do tend to focus the mind.

CHRISTIAN
Let me check on the order of move+attack for you.
Attack is either after or during the move.

JUSTIN
I see it too.

CHRISTIAN
So I guess I’m going to try to bull him out of the way of the trolley while I knee the shit out of him.
Are you going to want another contested ST roll, or does he want to get out of the way too?

JUSTIN
OK. Is that DEX?
Let me see if he ever notices.

CHRISTIAN
Yeah, he’s been in all out attack land too.

JUSTIN
13. He fails. He’s still focused on you.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, so normal groin knee attack at a move+attack penalty, plus a separate ST roll to shift him at the same time?

JUSTIN
Hmm… I want you to make a DEX to get out of the way, but I’m debating if I’ll let you make one for both of you.

CHRISTIAN
What does he weigh? Is it within my push/drag?

JUSTIN
He feels about 150

CHRISTIAN
If he’s over 144, I can still get him a distance of 1 even as dead weight.
If he’s on his feet, it should be totally doable.

JUSTIN
OK, so it’ll be one DEX roll, both to move him and opposed

CHRISTIAN
DX or ST?

JUSTIN
DX

CHRISTIAN
Check
And the attack has to be simultaneous.

JUSTIN
Yes
He rolled a 13, so he failed his DX by 1.

CHRISTIAN
Well, that simplifies things as long as I don’t punt the DX roll into the stands.
7
Nice
And his stab in the stomach last turn was an all out attack, right?
No active defenses this turn?

JUSTIN
OK, so you have control over him.
Yes, no active defenses
He’s in all-out attack land.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, while we’re moving I’m delivering my knee to the groin. Let me check the rules. Saw them last week and thought they were cool.

JUSTIN
OK

CHRISTIAN
Okay, it goes on brawling-1.
If the enemy is grappled, they defend at -2, not an issue because of his all out attack.

JUSTIN
My 4th Edition says it’s at -3 to attack, but you do double crushing damage

CHRISTIAN
Normally, targeting the groin is at a -3 penalty, but, if you have the enemy in a front grapple, a knee strike against the groin is at no penalty.
Pg 404

JUSTIN
I’ll go with that
I see it

CHRISTIAN
And I put the info on shock in my email to you on OP I think…something else we forgot last time.

JUSTIN
Max of 4 for that one turn

CHRISTIAN
9

JUSTIN
ok

CHRISTIAN
That will teach him to stab me in the stomach.
crushing damage, right?

JUSTIN
I think technically it was in the kidneys
Yes, crushing damage

CHRISTIAN
You can’t target the vitals without a stabbing weapon I think.

JUSTIN
Well, you’re good for the groin attack

CHRISTIAN
kick is thr crushing damage.
So 1d-1.

JUSTIN
Did you roll your brawling-1?

CHRISTIAN
That was the 9.

JUSTIN
AH!!! Ok, then yes 1d-1

CHRISTIAN
6…(sound of nuts coming out his mouth and hitting a nearby wall)
So 5 damage

JUSTIN
So he’s at HP 6 (-5 from 11) which is still over half his points
Plus he has a neg 4 on his IQ/DEX for the next turn

CHRISTIAN
So no knockdown, right?

JUSTIN
Nope

CHRISTIAN
Wait, so let me go over shock again.

JUSTIN
OK. Next turn. The photographer is going to try and break the grapple and move away.
I thought you need +50% damage for that

CHRISTIAN
That’s for major wounds.
Shock always applies equal to damage taken on the last turn up to -4.
Unless you’re a male who got kneed in the groin.
In which case it doubles up to -8.
I think.
Let me check again.
Only from crushing damage.

JUSTIN
Page 419

CHRISTIAN
The groin stuff is on 404.
Yeah, so he has a horrendous pile of shock, double the usual -4, but no major wound and thus no knockdown

JUSTIN
So he’s going to move to all-out defense and try to break the grapple

CHRISTIAN
Okay, so what are all our negative modifiers?
Both of us have normal ST.
But I think we both have reduced brawling because of our reduced DX.

JUSTIN
He’s at a shitload of negative DEX, both -4 for being grappled and an additional -8 for being kneed in the groin

CHRISTIAN
Just realized we didn’t count my shock last turn, so we can count it this turn to even things out somewhat.

JUSTIN
That works. You also have +5 to strength because you have a two-hand grapple

CHRISTIAN
Nobody joining the grapple…say, a crowd of cops with clubs?

JUSTIN
He shouldn’t have any neg to his strength

CHRISTIAN
Okay, so still a straight ST contest.

JUSTIN
In a second?

CHRISTIAN
No problem cops of Amsterdam…I’ll pacify your city streets for you.

JUSTIN
I think you could forgive the Amsterdam Police for not charging at a gun-wielding man in the path of a speeding trolley.

CHRISTIAN
He doesn’t have a gun anymore dammit

JUSTIN
And they know this because…?
Anyway he rolled a 7, beating his STR by 4

CHRISTIAN
They’re watching the grapple with guns drawn. They’d better give me something for this…a gift basket at least.

JUSTIN
or a pair of clogs full of tulips
Roll your STR

CHRISTIAN
10
Under 11 by 1

JUSTIN
So you beat it by 1, plus 5 gives you 6. What are your neg modifiers for being stabbed?

CHRISTIAN
None to ST, but -4 to DX and IQ.
This turn only.
Just like his.
Next turn we’ll be back to normal.
Or wait, I started the turn.
So his penalties are next turn.
Keep forgetting the initiative order.
How many rounds have I been going at it now?
5?
6?

JUSTIN
He just went, so we’re on a new turn
I think this is the 5th round

CHRISTIAN
Okay, so are his penalties for this turn?
Or am I off by a turn?

JUSTIN
Off by a turn. They just went.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, makes sense.

JUSTIN
Fresh turn now. Your move. The photographer makes a half-hearted effort to break free, but fails

CHRISTIAN
So we’re still in a grapple, he’s got a knife in his off hand, and we’re both hurt, but me much worse.

JUSTIN
Yup. And he’s probably going to stab you again this turn.

CHRISTIAN
Let me make my will roll to start.

JUSTIN
OK

CHRISTIAN
Pfff…15.

JUSTIN
All-out attack it is

CHRISTIAN
All out attack time again.
Well, I know what my Krav Maga instructor would tell me.

JUSTIN
Eye gouge?

CHRISTIAN
If one knee to the groin was good, imagine how great a whole BUNCH of them would be

JUSTIN
Sounds about right
I feel I should penalize you for applying 21st Century tactics to a 1930s fistfight, but I don’t really care that much.

CHRISTIAN
I think they’re instinctive…the guy who came up with Krav Maga was a WW2 era guy I think.
I’m torn between two knees or one really nasty one…all out attack is fun.

JUSTIN
I’m sure real 1930s fistfights were way more brutal than Hollywood portrayed them as. OK then, knee away.

CHRISTIAN
I’m taking the double option under all out attack.
But it depends on your ruling

JUSTIN
No problem here. I’m going to laugh when you kill this guy using nothing but knees to the groin.

CHRISTIAN
Would I be able to ready my knee for a second attack in this same turn?

JUSTIN
Seeing as how you just did it and he was unable to break free, I think so.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, two knee strikes at brawling-1.

JUSTIN
Go!

CHRISTIAN
Two 11s.
Brawling 12.
Sucks to be this guy.
But he’s got active defenses this time.

JUSTIN
Wow!

CHRISTIAN
He still has active defenses though.
Even though they go at nasty penalties (for being grappled, and another -2 for front grapple knee strikes).

JUSTIN
He’s going for increased block
Not seeing that though

CHRISTIAN
What, active defenses or knee strike to groin?

JUSTIN
He rolled 3d for a 13

CHRISTIAN
Which all out defense option did he take?
the flat +2 to one active defense or that other one?

JUSTIN
The flat +2

CHRISTIAN
What active defense is he using?

JUSTIN
Block, and he also gets +1 for Combat Reflexes

CHRISTIAN
Okay, so he negated the -2 penalty, but what about penalties for being grappled?
Thought he had some of those too?

JUSTIN
That’s for STR, not DEX

CHRISTIAN
I think block is for shields etc. This would be like parry.

JUSTIN
What the hell is “Effective Defense”?
It says to roll 3d, but doesn’t say against what

CHRISTIAN
First things first, what’s he blocking with?
Off-hand, trying to get a leg in the way of my knee, or what?

JUSTIN
Leg

CHRISTIAN
Just realized that, in spite of his off-hand penalties with the knife hand, he would have gotten free attacks against me with his knife every time he parried.

JUSTIN
OK, it’s 9. FINALLY!

CHRISTIAN
He probably wouldn’t have made them, but, if he did, I’d be bleeding to death out of my femoral artery.

JUSTIN
So he rolled a 13, with -3 to 10, but still failed by 1.
It’s Weapons Skill, rounded down by half, +3.

CHRISTIAN
So half his brawling, rounded down, +3?

JUSTIN
So his target was 9. He failed the first, but succeeded on the second.
Just rolled a 12 for the second attack.

CHRISTIAN
Can’t roll them at once.
Because the damage I do will change his effective brawling be penalizing his DX.

JUSTIN
Well then N/M. Either way your first attack succeeds.

CHRISTIAN
Sorry “by penalizing his DX”
Okay, let me roll damage.
3…well that was unimpressive.
So 2 damage.

JUSTIN
So he drops to HP 4/11

CHRISTIAN
But it still crushes him with -4 of penalties to DX and IQ.
So pretty low chances of his blocking the next attack.

JUSTIN
I think his Grappling is still normal.

CHRISTIAN
Anything that runs off DX is penalized.

JUSTIN
You’re right, so his Grappling his now 9

CHRISTIAN
Just for one turn, but long enough for me to deliver the next strike and keep him from stabbing me again.

JUSTIN
And he rolled an 11

CHRISTIAN
And hopefully this next one will give him the rest of the max possible -8 penalty.
Keeping me alive slightly longer.
okay, more damage…
5

JUSTIN
Does your plan involve standing there kneeing him in the groin all day until help arrives?

CHRISTIAN
So 4 damage.
Yeah, pretty much.
I’m on the edge, remember.

JUSTIN
Well it’s simple, I’ll give you that. OK, his HP is now 0/11.

CHRISTIAN
Does the fact that both attacks occurred in one turn mean that it amounts to a major wound?

JUSTIN
He passed his roll to avoid falling unconscious but just barely. He also drops his knife in the process.

CHRISTIAN
thank god.
Not that he could have hit me with -8 brawling, but I wasn’t looking forward to the chance of his rolling a crit.

JUSTIN
Yeah that would have sucked. Make a Danger Sense roll.

CHRISTIAN
PER?
4

JUSTIN
Whoops, I was supposed to make that roll but either way you succeeded.

CHRISTIAN
Oh, right

JUSTIN
But yes, it was against PER.

CHRISTIAN
ANOTHER TROLLEY!

JUSTIN
Out of the corner of your eye you see a man standing in an open car door pointing a revolver at you.

CHRISTIAN
Is it even my turn?

JUSTIN
Nope. Photographer is going to take his, then we start the cycle again.
Photographer is going to again try to break free of the grapple.
OMG! 3

CHRISTIAN
shit
Let me see if I can crit too.
14
nope

JUSTIN
I was going to say I’m not sure what GURPS rules say when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object.

CHRISTIAN
Probably a push.

JUSTIN
Either way, as you’re temporarily distracted the photographer wrenches his arm free and runs behind the trolley that just passed you towards the open car door.

CHRISTIAN
Isn’t the driving worried about being lit up by a bunch of cops with drawn guns?
Sorry “driver”

JUSTIN
If he is, he’s got a funny way of showing it.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, let me make my will roll.
14
The all out attacks continue.

JUSTIN
Keep in mind that even though it’s been A FUCKING HOUR of playing time, we’re only talking a minute or two of game time.

CHRISTIAN
Actually, it’s been something like 12 seconds I think.

JUSTIN
Hell of a 12 seconds.

CHRISTIAN
Yeah, really.
Okay, so all out attack.

JUSTIN
Yes. You’ll have to move first though

CHRISTIAN
Can’t

JUSTIN
Why?

CHRISTIAN
He’s out of the range I can move without doing a move+attack.

JUSTIN
So what, you’re just going to stand there throwing punches in mid-air?

CHRISTIAN
Besides, I’ve got two enemies. As long as I can find a way to all out attack them, I meet the spirit of on the edge.
quick-draw to ready my pistol as a free action, drop to one knee as a free action.
Let me start with drawing my pistol and see how that goes.

JUSTIN
Is that all you’re going to do?

CHRISTIAN
Those are just free actions.
If they work, I’ll need to make my attack(s)

JUSTIN
I don’t see Fast Draw for you

CHRISTIAN
No, but it defaults to DX-something I think.
Let me check.

JUSTIN
DX+1
So 13 for you

CHRISTIAN
It says it has no default.
But, hey, I’ll definitely roll 13 or less to do it.

JUSTIN
Disregard the 13, but do roll your DEX for it.

CHRISTIAN
6

JUSTIN
So either way you succeed

CHRISTIAN
Second free action is dropping to one knee…not because it gives me a bonus (though I hope it does), but because it would look cool.

JUSTIN
I’ll give you +1 to aim

CHRISTIAN
Checking ranged combat rules to see how this works.

JUSTIN
+1 for All-Out

CHRISTIAN
Okay, my attack will be at the one pointing the gun at me, obviously.

JUSTIN
Your photographer friend is blocking the line of sight.

CHRISTIAN
Well, I guess I’ll shoot at him then.

JUSTIN
OK

CHRISTIAN
I’ll target his vitals for -3.
So I guess that’s his kidneys since I’m behind him.

JUSTIN
So you’re going at -1

CHRISTIAN
-3 +1, right? -2
Oh wait
You’re right
all out attack as well

JUSTIN
+1 for your knee shot

CHRISTIAN
-1
9
No problem making that shot

JUSTIN
What’s your Weapons Damage?

CHRISTIAN
I have it as a TL6 auto pistol instead of the more specific pistol I had from cliffhangers, so we’ll go with the generic pistol for now I guess.
2d+2 pi, but my hollowpoints increase it to pi+
And actually, it’s even worse than pi+, because the vitals shot changes the multiplier to x3.

JUSTIN
So…?
What are you rolling?

CHRISTIAN
So that’s probably all for this guy unless he’s Rasputin.
2d+2, with a x3 multiplier

JUSTIN
Make the roll anyways

CHRISTIAN
9
So +2 for 11, x3 for 33.

JUSTIN
Yeah he’s dead

CHRISTIAN
So -33.
He could theoretically still survive though.
There’s the major wound to start, plus knockdown before getting to the car.

JUSTIN
You drop to one knee and draw a bead on the photographer running for the open car door. You slowly squeeze the trigger. You don’t even hear the shot. You just see the photographer’s back explode as he drops to the ground.

CHRISTIAN
Then all the other nasty things like stun, unconsciousness.
Come on, make the guy’s HT roll.
He might live yet.

JUSTIN
The photographer still manages to raise an arm towards the man in the car door. The man just looks down, lowers his pistol, and fires point-blank into the photographer’s skull.

CHRISTIAN
Oh…well, so much for him.
Well, at least car guy took his turn…my turn now.

JUSTIN
And you never even got to read his six-page backstory…

CHRISTIAN
Truly, life was cheap in 1930s Amsterdam.

JUSTIN
It is your turn. However, as soon as the man in the car shoots the photographer, his driver hits the accelerator and the car starts to take off.
In the back of your mind you are already debating where to hang the framed front page of tomorrow’s newspaper.

CHRISTIAN
He’s not going anywhere.
Who can I see to shoot them?
The driver, the guy, the car?
I’ve got 8 more bullets.

JUSTIN
Technically you can see all three, but there are civilians standing nearby.

CHRISTIAN
How many, and are they between me and the car?

JUSTIN
There’s a man on his bicycle and yes, for this turn only he’s between you and the car.
There are also four others, but they’re not in your field of fire.

CHRISTIAN
hmm

JUSTIN
This isn’t chess. What is your action?

CHRISTIAN
Can I see the tires?

JUSTIN
Of course

CHRISTIAN
And why the hell is this guy riding his bike through my gunfight? Doesn’t he see the screaming cops or hear the gunfire?
Okay, checking rules to shoot at vehicles.

JUSTIN
It is pouring rain and there have only been 2-3 shots fired

CHRISTIAN
Okay okay. Tire shot.
-4
+1 for knee
+1 for all out attack
Any other negative modifiers?

JUSTIN
Besides the civilian in the middle of your view, no

CHRISTIAN
Is that just a problem if I miss the roll?

JUSTIN
Yup

CHRISTIAN
Fair enough.
So -2?

JUSTIN
Subtract -6 for the civilian
I should also throw in another -1 for the rain, but I forgot to last time.

CHRISTIAN
So -8 now that I’ve already declared my action?

JUSTIN
You can do something else if you want.
I dropped enough hints though that this was a bitch of a shot.

CHRISTIAN
Actually, I should probably roll my will to start.
10

JUSTIN
So you have enough Willpower to avoid going Boondocks Saints on this guy.

CHRISTIAN
I think I can stand to wait the one second for bike guy to get out of the way.
I’ll aim this round.
Next round I’ll be able to apply the pistol’s acc bonus.

JUSTIN
OK. That works. The car is still speeding into traffic, but you think you can get off one more shot. The driver is no longer in view though.

CHRISTIAN
Tires still in view?

JUSTIN
Yes, but it’s -2 for range
So total of -4

CHRISTIAN
-2 for range, +1 for knee, +1 for all out attack, -2 for target location
Plus the weapon’s acc bonus for aiming

JUSTIN
Don’t forget -1 for rain, but yeah

CHRISTIAN
-1 for rain
Acc is 2
so -1 total

JUSTIN
OK

CHRISTIAN
11
Wow, hit it, but only just
How does vehicle damage work?
Let’s see this asshole do escape driving at top speed in the rain with a shot out tire.

JUSTIN
I don’t know, but I think we can assume that your hollow-point shot out his tire

CHRISTIAN
Works for me.

JUSTIN
You see the car go screeching into traffic, it’s back rear tire flopping against the pavement.
You feel yourself being grabbed from behind.

CHRISTIAN
I’ll say “let go of me, idiot” in German.
And then “call an ambulance”
also in German.

JUSTIN
One of the Dutch policemen is trying to help you up. He gestures towards the steps where Van Meer is already being loaded into an ambulance.
Make a PER roll.

CHRISTIAN
I’ll hold my off hand to my stomach and run over to jump in the ambulance. We’re all going to the same place at this point.
9

JUSTIN
OK, you convince the paramedics to let you in.

CHRISTIAN
The bleeding stomach helps I’m sure.
First aid roll on myself, and I’ll try to assist them in their first aid roll on Van Meer after that

JUSTIN
OK, do your first aid roll. The ambulance is driving rapidly through town.

CHRISTIAN
7
Think I was at 4 hp, maybe less. Let me check the email.

JUSTIN
3

CHRISTIAN
hp is at 3.
Just saw it.
1d-1 hp restored.

JUSTIN
OK, roll for it.

CHRISTIAN
3
So I’m back to 5.

JUSTIN
That works.

CHRISTIAN
How’s Van Meer?

JUSTIN
You see the paramedic injecting him with something but that’s it.

CHRISTIAN
I’ll assist however I can.
Probably some kind of bonus to their rolls, but that’s it.

JUSTIN
Make a PER roll.

CHRISTIAN
botch

JUSTIN
What was it?

CHRISTIAN
18
An actual botch

JUSTIN
Roger, then you don’t notice anything unusual about Van Meer.

CHRISTIAN
Other than his injuries?

JUSTIN
You also don’t notice that the ambulance has stopped.

CHRISTIAN
Hmm. In retrospect, I suppose 15 seconds was a remarkably fast time for an ambulance to arrive.

JUSTIN
In addition, you fail to notice that the rear door is being opened.
You do, however, notice the two familiar individuals standing at the rear door.

CHRISTIAN
Oh?

JUSTIN
Make a PER roll

CHRISTIAN
8
I take it there was some danger sense roll I failed at some point

JUSTIN
13. Sorry.

CHRISTIAN
Who’s the second guy?
The driver?

JUSTIN
Yes. The first individual is wearing a pinstripe suit with a white turtleneck. He has a weathered face and slicked back dark hair.

CHRISTIAN
Free action to laugh and hold up one of my hands.

JUSTIN
They both have drawn guns pointing at you.
And that’s where we’re going to end, unless you want to go another hour.

CHRISTIAN
Sure, might as well get a bit more plot developed since all we did was the fight.

JUSTIN
ONLY because we spend eighty minutes grappling and kneeing to the groin.
“Who are you?!?!” they demand.

CHRISTIAN
“Cormac Payne, Napolitano and Sons. Can you believe I was just hear for the auction?”
uh, “here”
can’t type

JUSTIN
“You should never have gotten involved,” the man says. “Now get out!”

CHRISTIAN
Have they removed my pistol yet?

JUSTIN
No, but you have two guys with guns pointed at you.

CHRISTIAN
I’ll get out then.

JUSTIN
Make a PER roll.

CHRISTIAN
What language are we speaking, by the way?

JUSTIN
Dutch, which I should probably make you roll for.

CHRISTIAN
10
for PER

JUSTIN
Roll for language then.

CHRISTIAN
This might be a stupid question, but can I use my phrasebook for a bonus?

JUSTIN

CHRISTIAN
Just kidding
9

JUSTIN
OK, your German is good enough to get you by (Dutch being a Germanic language and all)
You’re right outside of the city on a dirt road. There are quite a few people walking up and down the road, including a few with horse-drawn carts. The rain has stopped. Just off to the side is the car you shot at earlier, with the back tire blown out.

CHRISTIAN
“So is Van Meer going to be alright? What did you inject him with?”

JUSTIN
“With this!” the man snarls.
Nothing happens.

CHRISTIAN
With what?
Did he brandish anything other than his gun?

JUSTIN
The man looks back at the paramedic who is now behind you. “Wait,” says the paramedic, “did you want me to do something?”

CHRISTIAN
Starting combat
Can I get a surprise round?

JUSTIN
Sure.

CHRISTIAN
Quickdraw again
Runs off DX, right?

JUSTIN
Make your DX roll.

CHRISTIAN
6

JUSTIN
OK, you’ve got your gun out.

CHRISTIAN
All out grapple against the paramedic, then DX to muscle him around to between me and the gunmen.

JUSTIN
OK, but each one will be at -1 because of multiple actions.

CHRISTIAN
Well, the all out attack should help a bit.
I’ll make the grapple determined for +4.
so +3 on that, and -1 on the DX to spin him around.

JUSTIN
OK

CHRISTIAN
8 for the grapple, easily succeeds.
5 for the DX.

JUSTIN
Well, it’s not like the paramedic is trained in that sort of thing.

CHRISTIAN
Boy, I would not want to be this paramedic right now.

JUSTIN
OK, you easily grab the guy and spin him around. Good thing too, because the two men unload on both of you.

CHRISTIAN
So now the normal initiative order for the first round of non-surprise combat?

JUSTIN
Yup

CHRISTIAN
If that was a surprise round, I think I’ve still got one action on them.
Unless they’ve got my speed beat for the initiative order.

JUSTIN
5.5?

CHRISTIAN
5.75

JUSTIN
Is that with all your wounds?

CHRISTIAN
Wounds don’t affect it.
Except for during shock.

JUSTIN
OK. Then you go first.

CHRISTIAN
Okay, will roll time.
13
No surprises there I guess.

JUSTIN
So much for plot development…

CHRISTIAN
Yeah, these guys weren’t very talkative.

JUSTIN
What, did you think they were going to give you a brief?

CHRISTIAN
I figured they would just take Van Meer and leave.
But, hey, no problem.

JUSTIN
If you weren’t at 5HP I was going to have them just shoot you and toss you in a ditch. Oh well… Your move.

CHRISTIAN
I’m forming some strong opinions about the quality of Dutch police work.

JUSTIN
Very well…

CHRISTIAN
Targeting the vitals of the driver and shooting him, then saying “drop it” as a free action

JUSTIN
OK, you’re at point-blank range on this one.

CHRISTIAN
Boy, I hope this paramedic ate something dense for breakfast.
WOOT
3
Two can play this crit game

JUSTIN
OK, roll for damage

CHRISTIAN
Also, found the cover rules on 407-408.
The paramedic can probably be shot through.
Rolling on the critical hit table
pg 556

JUSTIN
I assumed as much

CHRISTIAN
I rolled a 15, which is maximum normal damage. 2d+2 gives me 14, x3 for vitals gives me 42 damage.

JUSTIN
SHIT!

CHRISTIAN
But I think the guy could still possibly live.

JUSTIN
He has HP 11, so that’s -31

CHRISTIAN
Instant death isn’t until like 5xhp or something.
Jesus, guns are dangerous, dude.

JUSTIN
Sorry 20 HP
Sorry -20 HP

CHRISTIAN
Knockdown?
Major wound?
Stun?
First, did he make his HT roll to avoid instant death?

JUSTIN
He rolled a 6, so yes

CHRISTIAN
I’m curious, because I expect to be making similar rolls in the next round or two.
I guess his shock would be -4 to start with.

JUSTIN
I don’t think he can pass the unconscious roll though.
Since he has to roll below -20

CHRISTIAN
It’s at like -5 for the hit to the vitals alone.
pg 420

JUSTIN
So I’m going to say the Getaway Driver just drops like a sack of potatoes.

CHRISTIAN
Still alive though, right? Just really messed up and unconscious/comatose?

JUSTIN
For now, yes.

CHRISTIAN
Maybe we shouldn’t be shooting this paramedic.

JUSTIN
By the way, everyone around you is screaming.

CHRISTIAN
I don’t suppose he takes my advice to drop it?

JUSTIN
If by “it” you mean his pulse, then yes.

CHRISTIAN
I mean the other guy

JUSTIN
Let me roll for him.

CHRISTIAN
I really don’t want to kill any more NPCs, especially if they’re somehow central to the plot.

JUSTIN
I can always rework the plot. I’m just trying to see if I can avoid killing you.

CHRISTIAN
I’m guessing no. Looking at the overpenetration rules for cover, I think he can shoot through the paramedic.
Maybe not enough to kill me, but enough that I might not make it to drinks at 8.

JUSTIN
I’m going to punt on this one and say that the driver of the ambulance has somehow got out of his car and whacks you over the back of the head with a blackjack.

CHRISTIAN
Doesn’t that mean I get shot in the back of the head and thrown in a ditch?

JUSTIN
Normally yes, but since everyone is freaking out I’m going to rule that they panic and just leave you in the road.
, jump back in the ambulance, and take off.

CHRISTIAN
How about “Dutch police cars are finally fucking approaching”?
Now that lunch is over and they can resume the chase.

JUSTIN
Dutch police cars are finally fucking approaching
To be fair, they weren’t following the ambulance and the other two got away.
I’ve seriously got to end it here though.
